Michael Des Barres and Free Love Foundation (2006 - 2007)
"I'm really excited about the Free Love Foundation. It's a 12-piece soul band with these incredible brothers
and sisters. It's music that I've loved all my life, soul music, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. I'm very excited
to play these songs, and songs that I've written with Paul. I look forward to finding new outfits to wear and taking
this as far as I can go."
- MDB, 2007
In 2006, Michael teamed up with songwriter/producer Paul Ill to create Free Love Foundation - a 12-piece soul band that performed a mix of cover versions and original songs at the Mint club and other venues around LA.
The covers included versions of "Rock and Roll" (Led Zeppelin), "Don't Fight It" (Wilson Pickett) and "Shake" (Sam Cooke), while the original songs included "Soul City", "Please Stay" and "Little Latin Lover" - all written by Michael and Paul Ill.
Below is a quote from All Access Magazine's report from the show at The Aqua on July 27th, 2006:
"Michael Des Barres and his band are seasoned and legendary musicians that are true pros and made the night unforgettable with their hot sexy show. Actress/Singer Dee Dee Corona (AKA Dionne Corona) gave a highlight special performance with Michael Des Barres that had the entire house standing and applauding accompanied by outstanding musicianship. Backup vocalists included Katie, Gia, and Sharon, and the band manager and co-writer for many of Michael Des Barres original songs is Paul Ill who also played bass. Jock Ellis was great on trombone, and D.A. starred on keyboard. The impressive line-up also included Jason, guitar, Tom Brayton, drummer; Louis Taylor, saxophone, and Anne King, trumpet."
